8 Things the Church can Learn from Other Groups (#2)

Recently I was reading over a brochure that is distributed by a recovery group, and I discovered 8 things they encourage in their members that churches would do well to promote among their members as well.

In this post, I will highlight the second of these tenets.

Stay in contact with other members between meetings.

In the last post we looked at the importance of going to as many meetings as possible every week. This is something that keeps us accountable.

But what about in between those gatherings of other believers? How do we maintain our faith, accountability, and witness when we’re not assembling with other Christians?

The answer is to sustain that contact throughout the non-meeting times as well. Recovery groups encourage use of a phone list as a way to keep in communication with other members. The notion is that by staying in touch with other members, we will avert disaster, avoid pitfalls, and continue to display our faith in productive and positive ways.

As the recovery groups assert: Contact other members as often as possible.

“in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.” (Titus 2:7-8, NASB)

What are some ways you stay in touch between gatherings? What methods of communication do you use to contact other believers?

This is true. Christians should be fraternal, and accept brothers and sisters in Christ as family. We spend to much time with worldly pursuits, and become once a week worshipers.

You are right. We should focus less on what the world has to offer and more on spreading the Gospel. Thanks for reading and commenting!
