What if church was more like VBS?  Here are some of the highlights:

• Worship would be radically different.  There would be hand motions to every song and a smile on every face.  There wouldn’t be any complaints like, “why didn’t we do the music from Megachurch’s VBS” or “why are we using pre-recorded music”, but everyone would be excited because this was our music.   It wouldn’t matter that we did the same songs from the previous week because everyone loved last week’s music.
• Everyone would do their part in making service happen.  Everyone would have a function.  Volunteers would be there.  So much so, the ministerial staff would just be a supporting role.
• Friends would be encouraged to bring friends, not because of number but because church was such a great experience.  Friendships would form and Christ would be shared with all who come.

Beginning Janurary 1, 2011, at FBC Ellenton, we are making some changes, which will include a change to our current worship service. Throughout the process, I can’t stop asking myself: What if church was more like VBS?
