Count your blessings,
name them one by one,
Count your blessings,
see what God hath done!
Count your blessings,
name them one by one,
And it will surprise you
what the Lord hath done.
The words above are familiar to most of us who attend church or who grew up attending church. They are the words found in the chorus of the old hymn, “Count Your Blessings.”
As Christians, we sing them loud and we sing them proud. However, how often do we sing them like we mean them instead of singing them and meaning them?
This year as we focus on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, my challenge is simple, yet maybe it’s not: Take Inventory and Count Your Blessings.
No, really. I mean it. Count Your Blessings. While it’s all well and good to sing about it, we need to get past that point and really think about all that God has done.
Therefore, I challenge, no, I dare you — Count Your Blessings. I’m serious. Take time out of your busy gift-buying, goodie-baking, Christmas-carol-singing, church-going life and actually write down all the ways God has blessed you.
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
