People tend to look longer and more often at those things they find pleasing to the eye. If your blog is ugly, amateur or otherwise a pain to look at, people aren’t going to visit as often as they otherwise might. So, coming up with a good design scheme is the key to drawing new and repeat traffic with your blog.
Even if you have no sense of web design, there are programs, websites and other resources you can utilize to make your blog look great. Here’s how you too can easily choose the proper look for your blog. Realize you will need to keep your eyes open if you want to catch any of this stuff.
What’s Your Favorite Color?
Your blog should be something which is undeniably you, so making it look just the way you want is a requirement, not just a fun privilege. Your blog design should really stand out and be memorable. This means no solid colors (unless you’re writing aboutpainting or something like that). You will want an interesting color scheme that isn’t seen many other places.
For example, if you’re writing about big cats, you might want a leopard or cheetah print on your blog’s background, something that not only looks good but also further engrosses the reader. Coming up with special layouts for certain holidays would also be a nice touch and certainly a memorable one for your readers.
Text Must Be Legible
Have you ever tried to read red text on a purple background or some other garbage like that? It’s murder on the eyes, practically assault with how much strain it will cause you, just by reading it. Do not make this mistake with your blog.
Typically, black on a white back is easy enough to read, but yellow on black is probably the easiest reading for the human eye. A black background will significantly reduce monitor glare for your readers and yellow stands out more than any other color against black.
Remember, white isn’t a color but the absence of any color. Your readers will thank you for giving their eyes a break, no doubt. You’ll have an easier time working on your blog too, especially if you are often up late at night working on the thing.
Look to The Professionals
If you can’t come up with anything good by yourself, you could always look at the layout of another, bigger and better blog. Just by surfing the web and using your own eyes to look at other blogs, you will see things which really appeal to you.
Maybe you see a scrolling blog bar aside a page and think it would be nice to advertise your friends’ blogs on your own site. Maybe you see a RSS feed button and realize your own blog could do with some Really Simple Syndication.
There’s nothing wrong with looking around and seeing if anything really jumps out at you. Just remember not to outright steal something you see on another website. Putting what you saw in your own format on your own blog is like the ultimate flattery.
