Top Post #3: National Unfriend Day: Why and How to Cut the “Friend Fat”

December 31st, 2010

Leading up to January 1, 2011, I will be counting down the top 10 posts of 2010, as recorded by the WordPress site stats here on Footsteps of Faith.  The 3rd most popular post was National Unfriend Day: Why and How to Cut the “Friend Fat” and was originally published November 17, 2010.

In reading through the Google Trends today, I learned for the first time that Jimmy Kimmel has declared November 17 “National Unfriend Day.” Jimmy wants you to make the time and take the opportunity to go to your Facebook page and pare down your friend list.

Top Post #7: Sending Christmas Cards [wednesday trendsday with video]

December 30th, 2010

Leading up to January 1, 2011, I will be counting down the top 10 posts of 2010, as recorded by the WordPress site stats here on Footsteps of Faith.  The 7th most popular post was Sending Christmas Cards [wednesday trendsday with video] and was originally published December 22, 2010.

This week for my wednesday trendsday post, I decided to keep things a little lighter and less intense.

As I searched through Google’s Top 20 Trends, I noticed a few different general themes.  Some trends were sports related, including earl boykins, shane mosley, maya moore, and the beef o brady s bowl.  Other trends were entertainment related, like tasha nicole, taylor schilling, and kristen schaal.  Still others were connected to the medical field, such as bayer aspirin, scapula, and utmb.

However, what struck me immediately was the trend titled christmas cards.

Waiting on God [wednesday trendsday]

December 15th, 2010

As I have mentioned before, my friend Dan King has created a challenge over at his blog, BibleDude.  However, this week’s challenge has a new twist.  This time, we are to choose a photo under creative commons license on Flickr and use the image to inspire a blog post — sort of opposite from the way blog posts are normally written.

Therefore, I have chosen the following photo:

For some reason, this image reminded me of the old hymn Open My Eyes, That I May See.  Here are the lyrics for the first verse and chorus:

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

As I looked at the person sitting on the left, it seems he is simply meditating and waiting.  I think sometimes this is exactly what we as Christians need to be reminded of — to simply wait silently, patiently, and tell God we are ready — whenever and for whatever that may be.

As we continue through this Christmas season, maybe this is the perfect time to slow down from the busyness of our lives and truly, honestly seek God and His will.

What say you?

World AIDS Day 2010 [wednesday trendsday]

December 1st, 2010

Today’s [wednesday trendsday] post covers the topic of World AIDS Day 2010.  In that regard, I wanted to share with you a post I read over at Moore to the Point by Russell D Moore.  As a caveat, I want to say that I am not necessarily in agreement or disagreement with Dr Moore.  I am simply sharing his post with you in an effort to spark thought and discussion.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

Jesus has AIDS.

Just reading that in the type in front of you probably has some of you angry. Let me help you see why that is, and, in so doing, why caring for those with AIDS is part of the gospel mandate given to us in the Great Commission.

The statement that Jesus has AIDS startles some of you because you know it not to be true. Jesus, after all, is the exalted son of the living God. He has defeated death in the garden tomb, and defeated it finally. Jesus isn’t weak or dying or infected; he’s triumphant and resurrected.

Yes.

Yes, but, what we’re often likely to miss is that Jesus has identified himself with the suffering of this world, an identification that continues on through his church.
